Jonathan Romero is a Mexican-American community organizer from South Central Los Angeles. Jonathan began mobilizing communities in 2006 when he co-led what is now a historical student walkout as a demonstration against an anti-immigration bill. Since then his resourcefulness and commitment to community building has earned him many opportunities, such as a Posse Foundation full-tuition leadership scholarship, an invitation to speak alongside House of Representatives Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi at the Capitol Building in D.C., and an externship at the Philadelphia City Hall during the Occupy movement.

In 2013, Jonathan earned a B.A. in Political Science and Philosophy from Kalamazoo College and shortly after was hired by the Michigan Immigrant Rights Center (MIRC) where he co-led Welcoming Michigan; a statewide initiative to build a thriving state where immigrants are fully integrated and respected. Before joining MIRC Jonathan was a Contributing Editor at Praxis Center where he developed content for the Race, Class, and Immigration editorial page.

He is currently a Board Member at Welcoming America, a national organization that inspires people to embrace immigrants and build immigrant-friendly communities. In his spare time, Jonathan enjoys writing thought-provoking poems, using social media platforms to motivate people, and playing fútbol.
